Braces can bring teeth, lips, and jaws into correct alignment for
proper facial balance. Orthodontic treatment can also provide benefits
far beyond the enhanced appearance of your smile.
Straight teeth are easier to clean than those that are crowded. When
teeth are properly maintained, the chances for decay, gum disease,
and eventual tooth loss is greatly reduced.
A correct bite also overcomes the chances for abnormal wear of tooth
surfaces, stress of supporting bones and joints, and gum tissue.
Naturally, early treatment creates the best opportunity for lasting
oral health.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children
have a check-up with an orthodontic specialist no later than
age 7 for excellent reasons.
- When first molars emerge, bite
relationships can be evaluated that will create shifts
in tooth position
- Early detection of problems
can save time in treatment and expense
- Incisors erupt at this age, and early intervention can avoid
problems such as crowding, open bites, etc.

Children most easily achieve desired orthodontic results through
movement that is incorporated into growing mouths. Gentle realignment
can remedy crowding, excess spacing between teeth, and extra
or missing teeth. Bite irregularities that gradually worsen with
time can be corrected or prevented.

As your child grows, the need for orthodontic treatment is often
obvious. Just as often, however, it is not. Even teeth that appear
straight may lack proper alignment. As your child ages, occasional
evaluations should be scheduled to detect existing or future
dilemmas. When early treatment occurs, cost and time in treatment
can be minimized.

With today’s options of clear and ceramic brackets, “invisible” braces,
thinner wires, and reduced time in treatment, an increasing number
of adults are finding orthodontics a natural way to a beautiful,
healthy smile. The lasting beauty of natural teeth, a comfortable
bite, and correct jaw joint movement make orthodontics a wise investment
for adult smiles.
